Trail names are what long distance hikers use to identify each other on the trail. Tradition had it that a trail name must be given to you by other hikers. But that has become less so when hikers figured out they didn’t have to live with a name someone stuck on them if they came up with their own.
So rather than be stuck with who knows what, I chose "Cutter" as my trail name.
Why Cutter?
Think “Breaking Away,” the 1978 movie set on the campus of Indiana University about a group of townies who compete in a university bicycle race. They were the Cutters.
They’re described as “four misfits just out of high school who contentedly contemplate a future as dead-enders.”
I chose the name because I’m an IU grad and I love bicycling.
No, I don't think I’m a misfit or a dead-ender.
I live in East Tennessee near the Smoky Mountains. It’s the perfect location for someone who loves hiking, biking, and just spending time in the outdoors.
